What is a cenote?
Cenotes are unique geological formations, characteristic of the Yucatan Peninsula, created over thousands of years by the dissolution of limestone rock. These natural sinkholes lead to subway caverns and bodies of water, offering an amazing blend of geological landscapes, aquatic ecosystems and an intimate connection to Mayan history and culture, which considered them windows to the underworld.
