The Pit cenote dive & Nicte Ha – Epic immersion of light and nature

Live a one-of-a-kind cavern experience in the Mayan jungle. The Pit cenote dive drops you into depth, light, and mystery, while Nicte Ha offers a calmer, natural setting where sunlight blends with the green tones of water lilies. Two distinct worlds that showcase the magic of cenote diving in the Riviera Maya.

Cenote The Pit – Depth, light & mysticism

The Pit cenote dive is one of the most striking experiences for advanced divers. This vertical descent reaches 30 m (98 ft) and is lit by a natural beam that pierces the surface—creating a unique spectacle. At 15 m (49 ft) we cross a crisp halocline; below, a hydrogen sulfide cloud wraps the scene in an ethereal, mystical mood. Giant stalactites and 40 m+ (131 ft) visibility make El Pit perfect for underwater photography and for divers seeking a deep connection with nature.

Cenote Nicte Ha – Serenity among lilies and reflections

After the immensity of El Pit, Nicte Ha welcomes you with calm. Its Mayan name—“Flower of Water”—reflects the cenote’s harmony. From the cavern, divers look up to sunlit surface water adorned with floating lilies. It’s a shallow dive, ideal for divers with excellent buoyancy who enjoy silence, natural reflections, and connection with living nature.

A perfect balance: power and quiet

Pairing the Pit cenote dive with Nicte Ha strikes a balance between two underground worlds—the power of the abyss and the serenity near the surface. It blends technique, natural beauty, and contemplation—ideal for certified divers seeking more than a simple dive: a soulful connection to the Mayan underworld.

Itinerary

Daily plan

Pickup and Transportation

We start with on-time pickup at your hotel or residence at 8:00 a.m., then head to the Dos Ojos system—home to the Pit cenote dive and Nicte Ha. The drive through the Mayan jungle sets the tone with birdsong and tropical vegetation—already part of the connection with nature this experience is known for.

Dive Preparation

Before entering the water, we deliver a thorough safety briefing and dive plan. Our cenote-specialist guide checks your gear and explains site conditions in detail. This tour is designed for Advanced Open Water certified divers who want to experience the Pit cenote dive with maximum safety and confidence.

First Dive: Cenote The Pit

Maximum depth: 30 meters (98 ft)

The first dive takes place at El Pit, considered one of the Riviera Maya’s top cenote sites. A vertical profile and a dramatic natural light beam create a spectacular atmosphere. As we descend, we cross a crisp halocline; below, a hydrogen sulfide cloud tints the water with ethereal tones. With colossal stalactites and 40 m+ visibility, the Pit cenote dive is challenging and majestic—ideal for those seeking depth, technique, and awe.

Surface Interval & Refreshments

After the first dive, we take a break in the jungle to enjoy fresh fruit, snacks, and purified water. It’s a great moment to share impressions from the pit cenote dive before continuing to our second site, Nicte Ha, just a few minutes away within the same natural park.

Second Dive: Cenote Nicte Ha

Maximum depth: 8 to 10 meters (26–33 ft)

Our second dive takes place at Nicte Ha, a cenote of clear water and glowing ambiance. Its name means “Flower of Water,” and underwater you’ll see why: lily gardens, golden reflections, and a sense of absolute serenity. It’s perfect for buoyancy and precision practice—an ideal contrast to the power of the pit cenote dive.

Return

After both dives, we head back to your hotel or residence. You’ll carry with you the satisfaction of experiencing the pit cenote dive and Nicte Ha—two natural gems that capture the essence of Riviera Maya diving: depth, light, beauty, and connection with nature.
