Dos Ojos diving — Light, Shadow & Precision Underground
A signature Riviera Maya experience
Dos Ojos diving is a must-do for every certified diver visiting the Riviera Maya. Set between Playa del Carmen and Tulum inside the Dos Ojos Park, this cavern system is among the world’s most spectacular and accessible. Its name comes from the two circular “eyes” connected by an underground network of passages and chambers—where light, silence, and geology meet in a breathtaking scene.
Two routes, two perspectives of the Maya underworld
During this experience we make two complementary dives: Barbie Line and Bat Cave. The first opens up to crystal-clear water and sunbeams piercing the rocky ceiling—dos ojos diving at its most visual, where golden contrasts and a serene setting create an almost unreal atmosphere. The second, Bat Cave, leads us into a tighter, more mystical space where darkness sharpens the senses and our lights unveil passages draped in ancient formations.
Control, calm, and respect for the environment
Both routes call for solid buoyancy control and precise movements. While Open Water divers are welcome, focus and self-control are essential to enjoy the experience fully. Maximum depth is about 8 meters (26 ft) with outstanding visibility that keeps navigation comfortable and safe throughout.
Certified guides and professional safety
All dives at Dos Ojos are led by TDI/SDI-certified Full Cave Divers with years of experience in the Riviera Maya’s cavern systems. Every detail is planned to deliver a controlled, safe, and eco-respectful experience. The mix of technical know-how, professionalism, and passion ensures an unforgettable dos ojos diving adventure for those seeking the underground essence of the Mexican Caribbean.
About this Experience
Itinerary
Activity Plan — Dos Ojos Diving
Pickup and Transportation
We start with hotel pickup at 8:00 a.m. From Playa del Carmen we head to the Dos Ojos Park, one of the Riviera Maya’s most remarkable reserves. The drive crosses lush jungle to the cenote entrance, where we get ready for the first dos ojos diving immersion.
Briefing & Preparation
We deliver a thorough technical briefing covering safety, light signals, buoyancy, and cavern navigation. We check your gear, set up tanks, and share clear instructions so you move with confidence and control in the cave system. Open Water certification is required and good buoyancy skills are recommended to enjoy dos ojos diving safely.
First Dive — Barbie Line
Maximum depth: 8 meters (26 feet)
We begin with Barbie Line, a wide, light-filled route linking the system’s two main openings. Sunlight filters from above, revealing open chambers, columns, and roots for a hypnotic scene. It’s a visually striking dos ojos diving segment—perfect for enjoying the site’s natural beauty while applying precise buoyancy in a calm, clear environment.
Surface Interval & Refreshments
After the first dive, we relax on the surface for hydration and a light snack. Your guide previews the next dive—navigation, light use, and signals—so you can soak in the setting before continuing the adventure.
Second Dive — Bat Cave
Maximum depth: 8 meters (26 feet)
The second dive takes us to Bat Cave, a tighter and more mysterious route. We move through softly lit tunnels and passages until we reach an air dome inhabited by bats. The echo of their wings and the water’s reflections create a unique atmosphere where silence rules and concentration becomes essential. This dive embodies the purest essence of cenote diving in the Riviera Maya—technique, calm, and natural wonder—and is a hallmark of Dos Ojos diving.
Return

Ready for an even deeper experience?
If Dos Ojos diving captivated you with its light and silence, we invite you to discover the Dreamgate cenote dive— a hidden jungle gem where every movement reveals formations so dense and delicate they seem carved by time. This site offers a more technical, contemplative dive, ideal for divers with excellent buoyancy control who want to immerse themselves in the purest essence of cavern diving in the Riviera Maya.
Both cenotes—Dos Ojos and Dreamgate—showcase the best of cavern diving: a balance of safety, wonder, and connection with the natural environment. Two different yet complementary experiences that reveal why Tulum’s cenotes are considered true underwater cathedrals.
