The Pit Cenote Dive – An Advanced, Awe-Inspiring Experience
The Pit Cenote Dive is one of the most striking experiences for advanced divers in Mexico. Its vertical plunge, natural light show, and unique conditions make it an iconic site for technical and visual diving enthusiasts.
Explore Two Opposing Worlds Beneath the Jungle
This exclusive tour lets you explore two radically different environments in one day. From the immense depth and mystery of The Pit to the serene clarity and lush vegetation of Nicte Ha, it’s designed for those seeking a complete experience that challenges technique while connecting with nature.
The Pit – Light, Depth, and Millennia-Old Formations
Located in the Dos Ojos system, The Pit is a deep, vertical cenote with an impressive sunbeam entrance that descends like a shaft from the surface. Once submerged, you’ll pass through a well-defined halocline, feel the temperature shift of the thermocline, and see a sulfur layer suspended around 30 meters down. These features create a unique environment combining geology, biology, and spectacular visual effects.
The site hosts colossal stalactite formations that appear to float in the water thanks to excellent visibility and light contrasts. It’s perfect for professional-level underwater photography and for honing buoyancy control in deep conditions. Advanced dive experience and the ability to stay calm in a technical environment are required.
Nicte Ha – Clarity, Lilies, and Jungle Tranquility
As a perfect contrast, Nicte Ha is an open, shallow cenote surrounded by jungle vegetation and floating lilies. Its calm, crystal-clear waters provide a serene dive—ideal for relaxing after The Pit. The cavern-style entrances are partially lit by natural light, creating a magical atmosphere for precise buoyancy techniques, trim practice, or simply enjoying the underwater silence.
With visibility approaching 40 meters and a minimally disturbed natural setting, Nicte Ha is one of the best spots to connect with the surface beauty of cenotes. It’s also ideal for capturing wide-angle photos or video in stable conditions.
