Cenote diving tour in Tak Be Lum & Taak Bi Ha — Subterranean mystery and beauty
This cenote diving day pairs the Taak Bi Ha cenote dive with Tak Be Lum for certified Open Water divers with excellent buoyancy. Tight overhead passages and constant depth changes call for precision, calm, and solid technique. It’s an authentic look at the most challenging, rewarding side of Riviera Maya cenote diving. Both dives happen the same day from Playa del Carmen, with transportation, professional guide, and full gear included.
First dive: Taak Bi Ha Cenote — Heart of the underworld
Taak Bi Ha is a closed cavern accessed via a narrow vertical shaft—tanks are lowered on lines to the floor. Inside, lights unveil hypnotic white columns and stalactites over water so clear it feels invisible. Max depth is 8 m/26 ft, yet the irregular passages and overhead environment make the Taak Bi Ha cenote dive highly technical, demanding excellent buoyancy and body control. It’s an intimate, technical dive—perfect for divers who appreciate silence, precision, and the thrill of exploring an environment fully cut off from the surface.
Second dive: Tak Be Lum Cenote — Majesty underground
Tak Be Lum—literally “Place Below the Earth” in Mayan—is a semi-open cenote with a solemn feel and monumental formations. The descent leads into a wide chamber where dim natural light reveals walls shaped by ancient magma. With ~10 m/33 ft max depth, navigation is calm and dark—ideal for divers with solid buoyancy and a taste for underwater photography. This Tak Be Lum cenote dive balances Taak Bi Ha’s intensity with spacious, majestic scenery.
An experience for certified divers
Diving Taak Bi Ha and Tak Be Lum in one day means exploring two faces of the Mayan underground: one spacious and solemn, the other closed and hypnotic. This program suits Open Water divers with excellent buoyancy who are comfortable managing constant depth changes. Expect an authentic, quiet day of cavern diving—focused, respectful, and deeply rewarding—with the Taak Bi Ha cenote dive as the technical highlight.

About this Experience
Itinerary
Daily plan
Pickup and Transportation
We start with hotel pick-up at 8:00 a.m. in Playa del Carmen and head to the Dos Ojos Park, just before Tulum. Deep in the jungle you’ll find both cenotes for the day—Taak Bi Ha and Tak Be Lum—only a few minutes apart.
Dive Preparation
We begin with a full safety and cavern-procedures briefing. Your certified guide covers each cenote’s features, navigation, buoyancy expectations, and conservation rules. We also review light-based hand-signals to maintain clear underwater communication.
While both sites are suitable for Open Water divers, prior experience and impeccable buoyancy are required—any contact with the formations can cause irreversible damage.
3. Primera Inmersión: Cenote Taak Bi Ha
Maximum depth: 8 meters (26 feet)
We begin with the Taak Bi Ha cenote dive, a fully underground site accessed via a narrow vertical shaft. Tanks are lowered on lines, and once inside, artificial light reveals hypnotic white columns and stalactites.
Navigation includes frequent ascents and descents, challenging even for experienced divers. Expect to fine-tune buoyancy continuously and adjust depth smoothly. Demanding, yes—but the reward is unique beauty: maze-like passages, light reflections, and ancient white-stone walls.
You’ll see entrances to deeper cave passages—without entering them—so you can appreciate the branches and complexity of the system. This dive blends precision, serenity, and deep respect for a fragile environment.
Surface Interval and Refreshments
After the first dive, we take a break for purified water, fruit, a sandwich, and light snacks while sharing impressions. Then we relocate a few minutes within the same park to our second site: Tak Be Lum.
Second Dive: Tak Be Lum Cenote
Maximum depth: 10 m (33 ft)
Tak Be Lum—“Place Below the Earth” in Mayan—is a semi-open cenote where still darkness meets colossal formations. A wooden staircase leads to a chamber lit by a faint natural glow, just enough to reveal the site’s scale—an unforgettable Tak Be Lum cenote dive to close the day.
Underwater, visibility clears as we move forward and leave the initial silt behind. A deep sense of calm invites a slow, unhurried pace. The cavern unfolds into passages lined with striking rock formations, leading to ancient, spacious chambers that feel like natural halls. It’s an immersive, harmonious dive—buoyancy control and stillness let you savor every detail of the underground landscape. This dive perfectly balances the intensity of the Taak Bi Ha cenote dive, closing the day on a serene, visually powerful, and deeply inspiring note.
Return
After both dives, we head back to your hotel or residence. This brings an extraordinary day to a close—diving Taak Bi Ha and Tak Be Lum, where darkness, calm, and ancient formations combine for a profound, truly unforgettable underwater experience.

So cool rock formations and fossils, and the going up and down thru the cavern, one of my favorite dives so far
