Cozumel scuba diving from Playa del Carmen – Explore the world’s second-largest barrier reef
Fast, direct route
We depart from Playa del Carmen on a fast boat straight to Cozumel’s reefs. In about 35 minutes you’ll be over the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef—the second-largest coral system on the planet—perfect for world-class Cozumel scuba diving.
Certification required: minimum Open Water
To join our Cozumel dives, we require Open Water (or higher) certification. This keeps your experience safe and enjoyable. Newly certified divers start on calm, shallow reefs; with more experience, we can explore deeper walls or the wreck. If you’re not certified yet, we’re happy to guide you on how to get certified before diving.
Two guided dives
We run two dives: the first is usually along a majestic wall; the second takes place on a shallow reef or a wreck, depending on your level and preferences. Visibility can reach up to 40 m / 130 ft, with frequent encounters with turtles, eagle rays, big schools of fish, sponges, and both hard and soft corals—signature Cozumel scuba diving.
Experienced guides
You dive with open-water instructors who are also TDI/SDI Full Cave Divers. That advanced training in complex environments translates into a safe, well-organized operation with meticulous attention to detail.

Itinerary
Pickup and Transportation
We’ll pick you up at your hotel or residence at 7:40 a.m. From Playa del Carmen we head to Coco Beach to board a fast boat to Cozumel. The ride takes about 35 minutes across the turquoise Caribbean—often with a spectacular sunrise to kick off your Cozumel scuba diving day.
Dive Preparation
Before we dive, we deliver a thorough safety briefing and check every piece of gear. Our TDI/SDI-certified guides explain entry, communication, and ascent protocols to ensure a smooth, safe experience.
First Dive – Deep Wall or Intermediate Reef
The first dive is along one of Cozumel’s iconic underwater walls or reefs, depending on your certification level. These vertical formations—covered in sponges and corals—drop into deep blue, delivering breathtaking views. Turtles, eagle rays, and schools of tropical fish are common in the area’s outstanding visibility—classic Cozumel scuba diving.
Surface Interval & Break
After the first dive, we take about a one-hour surface interval on board. It’s the perfect time to relax, rehydrate, and enjoy fresh fruit, snacks, and purified water while we float above some of the clearest water in the world.
Second Dive – Colorful Reef or Shipwreck
The second dive varies based on the group and each diver’s experience.
- Colorful Reef: a shallow dive through vibrant coral gardens—ideal for an easygoing, light-filled experience.
- Shipwreck: a deeper option that blends history and adventure, exploring structures now colonized by fish and corals.
Cozumel offers a wide variety of sites for every level—from beginners to advanced divers—always guided by certified, experienced instructors.
